Review of Sex Ed (2014) by Elizabethp — 13 Nov 2014
Haley Joel Osment plays a twentysomething unable to find any job besides teaching in an after-school program in a Tampa area middle school. After realizing how poorly educated these kids are about sex, he decides to teach them himself—even though he’s a virgin. Eddie (Osment), while trying to educate his class, land his dream girl and get his life on track. As he confronts the shortcomings in the school system’s sex ed curriculum, he’s forced to confront the shortcomings in his own life, pushing this comedy past the usual boundaries of the genre.
It’s a raunchy, funny movie that shows women as people and middle school boys as hopelessly confused by the Internet, and addresses these issues through the voice of the main character, Eddie and Retta as the wise bartender he consults about his problems. The balance between sexual humor and actual issues makes this a movie worth watching that people will be sure to laugh though.
