Review of Sex and the City (2008) by Madison K — 28 Dec 2011
I wasn't a Sex and the City fan until I saw this movie. I absolutely adored it. And I would not put it in my Chick-Flicks catagory like I bet so many of you that haven't seen it have done.
I loved how they had a little recap at the beginning. It helped people like me who never watched the TV show but still wanted to see the movie.
After watching the TV show now, I see that the movie does stay true to the characters, the fashion, and the love. Miranda is back to hating men once Steve cheats on her, Charlotte is happily married and miraculously gets pregnant, Samantha is a little different: she's been seeing the same man for five years and loves him (but that will change by the end of the film), and Carrie and Big are finally getting married. But, like he always does, Big has to go and screw it up. I knew that Big would start to get cold feet, but when he told Carrie he wasn't showing up to the wedding, I was still shocked. I really felt for Carrie in that scene. I felt like I was the one receiving the news and getting a kick to the stomach when Carrie starts yelling "Get me out of here!".
I had a funny feeling about Carrie and Big getting married from the start. Just the way they got engaged. It was so business-like, there was no love involved it seemed like. I found it odd for two people who have been together for ten years to do that. I think that was a little hint to the marriage not working out the first time around.
But in the end, of course, everything works out. I'm glad Carrie and Big get back together, Miranda and Steve get back together (I love Steve), and Samantha got out of the relationship that she started to hate.
All in all, a very good film about relationships. And you don't have to already be a Sex and the City fan to go see it. But I guarantee you will be a fan when the credits start to roll.
