Review of Sex and the City 2 (2010) by Samantha S — 25 Apr 2011

My this series has come a long way.

I watched this movie in bits and pieces on HBO On Demand because I don't think I'd be able to stomach the entire thing at once. I figure I've probably seen every episode in the series (I watched most on DVD when I was recovering from having my wisdom teeth out and was on Vicodin) and I saw the first movie so I may as well finish it out.

Everything was fucking offensive about this movie. Seriously. Overly gay wedding with unbelievable gay couple (yes, of course the 2 gay best friends end up together despite having nothing in common...this is like how my gay guyfriends always complain that whenever people meet them they're like "oh I have a gay friend, you guys should date!")...offensive to everyone, especially the gay community. The totally overdid Samantha's sexual innuendos. As someone who is VERY hard to offend or disgust when talking about sex, I can actually say that hearing that shit come out of that 60 year old woman's mouth made me squirm and want to vom. Then SEEING her have fake sex with guys...also disgusting. Not even going to get started on it being set in the middle east and everything offensive about that.

They dumbed-down and shallowified Cynthia Nixon's character even more than ever before. They made Charlotte even more annoying than ever before, and Carrie ends the series even more vapid, self-absorbed than ever before.

I gave this movie 1 star instead of 1/2 a star only because of the Cynthia Nixon/Kristin Davis scene where they're drinking and commiserating about being mothers. Only good scene in the movie.

If only they'd stayed true to anything that Candace Bushnell stands for, the series may not have gone so utterly down the tubes.
