Review of Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010) by A777Med A — 01 May 2010
Superior biopic anchored by a terrific performance from Serkis and solid support. If anything, there is too little of Winstone, Toby Jones and MacKenzie Crook. Instead, Williams largely grounds the drama - which does delve conventionally into flashback and stage acts a bit often.
Still, these sequences are tied into an explication of Dury's radical persona and reinterpretation of pop media to more culturally subversive ends.
