Review of Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010) by Michael L — 18 Jul 2010
Andy Serkis absolutely nails Dury in a beautifully directed biopic that can't quite escape the fact that it's incredibly boring. It's a bizarre film in the sense that all the parts are there - a supposedly compelling story of a fascinating character in British rock history with brilliant acting and inspired directing - but it just doesn't work.
Well done those involved, you were wonderful but wow, that was dull. Perhaps it was the intensity of the character that is so relentless, you never come up for air and ultimately zone out. Maybe that explains my hatred of There Will Be Blood, which this is a lot better than.
