Review of Severance (2006) by Chris M — 11 Feb 2010
When Team-Building Goes Bad... there's no shortage of cliches here, but it's done with no little commitment. There's shocks from the opening scenes, and it's mostly done pretty well. It's also occasionally funny, especially the missile launcher. The director plays with horror conventions, subverting our expectations with sound and cuts, although towards the end he reverts to more straight-up gore...
There's not a massive amount of character development, but to be honest if that's what you're after, why are you watching this?! Danny Dyer will never be better (!?) and the less-well-known supporting cast are pretty decent.
Best of all, there are some excellent DVD extras that show what a brilliant low-budget effort this was!
