Review of Severance (2006) by David L — 18 Jun 2011
In it's own words, this film prides itself upon being a 'comedy thriller'. In my eyes, no film is ever going to obtain full credibility when blending two completely opposite ends of the film genre, horror and comedy.
However, this is about as close as you will see a film come to achieving this. It's tongue in cheek humour was consistently amusing, thanks to the crudeness of Danny Dyer, and the 'geek' played by Andy Nyman.
In addition to this, the film managed to play out a sinister and gory plot, with a high level of suspense. The balance was spot on, and didn't resort to being dominated by comedy like Shaun of the Dead, or on the other hand being as graphic as something like Hostel.
Packed with a fairly all star cast, this is definitely worth a watch.
