Review of Seventh Son (2014) by Michael G — 05 Feb 2015
I hate the hive mind of critics. They'll collectively decide that an incomprehensible POS like "Inherent Vice" is some kind of secret treasure while taking easy shots at a fantasy flick like this one-- a genre that gets less respect than torture porn.
If you're into old-fashioned fantasy (dragons, shape-shifters, witches, knights, magic, etc.), you'll have fun with this tale of knights versus Mother Malkin, a flame-tressed powerful witch ready to transform into a dragon at a moment's notice.
She's deliciously evil as played by Julianne Moore, which makes up for Jeff Bridge's knight with a mouthful of peanut butter that seems to be inspired by Gandalf. Regardless, if you like this sort of thing--and you know who you are-- you'll have fun watching Moore go full goth.
