Review of Seventh Son (2014) by Brett C — 07 Feb 2015
For readers of the book- be warned its very, very different! That said, it's also extremely fun! For those who enjoy the genre or read the book and can appreciate the interpretation- GO SEE IT!! Overall, this film was much more enjoyable than the reviews would have you think- people can be such snobs on here.
It's fun, you'll probably enjoy it if this is your sorta movie and at the very least, you won't be bored!! For enjoyers of PERCY JACKSON, NARNIA and even those that didn't get sequels (I seriously doubt there's one in the 7th Sons future either) like GOLDEN COMPAS, INK HEART and ERAGON.
The special effects make it worth the extra cash to see it on the big screen as well (we didn't see it in 3D). Sure, there were some cheesy scenes where people walk through the rain yet no one really gets wet.
Yes, Jeff Bridges unnecessarily uses a voice that is a bit distracting at time (but I always thought he would make the perfect Spook). And yes, Thom takes a few MASSIVE falls and somehow survives them without so much as a scratch.
And I'm not sure why they shot the majority of the film in that cheesy blurred soap opera lighting, but oh-well. I still recommend it to anyone who thinks they might like it- because you probably will.
