Review of Seventh Son (2014) by Alissa B — 14 Jun 2015
Learn something from the pain.
An evil witch queen escapes from her imprisonment. Notorious witch hunter, Master Gregory, tries to catch her but fails and losses his young apprentice in the process. Gregory approaches the seventh son of his previous apprentice and brings him on as a new apprentice to hunt down the queen. Can Master Gregory accomplish his goal with such a green sidekick?
"I'm starting to wish I was a sixth son.".
Sergey Bodrov, director of The Quickie, Nomad: The Warrior, A Yakuza Daughter Never Cries, Fool's Game, Running Free, and Bear's Kiss, delivers Seventh Son. The storyline for this picture is just okay and reminded me of a poor man's Percy Jackson. The special effects were pretty solid and the cast delivers mediocre performances. The cast includes Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander, Djimon Hounsou, and Kit Harington.
"Flattery is fine. Gold is finer.".
We grabbed this from Red Box the other night because my girlfriend thought it looked entertaining. This played out about as I expected, mainly cool special effects but on par with RIPD (also with Bridges). Unfortunately, this isn't anything special and just okay. I recommend giving this a viewing only if nothing else is on and it is airing on cable for free.
"We all have secrets.".
Grade: C-.
