Review of Seven Years in Tibet (1997) by Jeremy C — 19 Dec 2008
An ambitious and expensive-looking film, Seven Years In Tibet is a compelling epic tale that benefits from solid storytelling and great acting. Brad Pitt delivers a fine performance, but he doesn't quite nail his Austrian accent.
David Thewlis is also great, and he has great cinematic chemistry with Pitt. Even more interesting is the on screen relationship of Pitt's character and the Dalai Lama, and both of them undergo significant and enjoyable changes.
If there is a problem with the film, it is that it sometimes is too fast-paced for its own good, but there are times when the story just drags along. Still, it is a very enjoyable and memorable film.
