Review of Seven Swords (2005) by C0Ncept B — 28 Jan 2009
I would recommend watching the original Chinese series first, then watching this -- it's much more appreciable if you are already familiar with the story. I compare this and the full mini-series with the David Lynch version of Dune vs.
the Sci-Fi Channel mini-series. This is an extremely well done movie, but due to the size and complexity of the story has necessarily been cut down to a form more palatable to a regular audience. Still, the cinematography and choreography are excellent, and if you already are familiar with the story you will get so much more out of this movie.
I originally watched the short version of the film and did find it somewhat difficult to follow and get into, but I could tell there was something there, so I went out and bought the original series. I'm on Episode 25 now and I'm completely hooked.
