Review of Seven Swords (2005) by Jonny H — 20 Mar 2010
Amazing photography, some good moves, a bad movie.
Seven swords started off great, keeps you interested with the story, the action, the gore, the killings... but as the movie goes on, you realize that it's not about the characters, or the martial art, but the swords - which makes the sword-users utterly useless.
Issues of 'outsiders' and the topic of racism is covered slightly, but I don't think there's a deeper meaning to it, or if it was intentional. The love and sex was in the movie just for the sake of having them in there. Mainly about how great the swords are, and betrayal. However, the latter only to make the plot move forward.
Sometimes, you do want to just have a movie that not let you think, one that does not have a deep plot or meaning - so you can numb your brain, this is one of them. Possibly a good rental when absolutely nothing else is on.
