Review of Seven Samurai (1954) by Lucas S — 24 Jul 2010
Oh My God!!! What can I say about this movie that haven't been said before? Should I say that this is one of the best movies ever made? Should I say that this is the Citizan Kane or The Godfather of the Japanese cinema? But I guess all this has been said long before I was born.
The premisse is simple, a poor village is atacked by a group of thieves and they hire a group of seven samurai to defend them, but Akira Kurosawa brilliant vision made what so many other directors tried so hard to do, emotionally deep and still highly entertaining.
Altough the movie may be too long, it captures the attention of the viwer through the whole film, there isn't one single scene that looks unecessary or badly executed. All characters are very dense, the cinematography is simply spectacular and the fight scenes are incredibly well done.
It's very interesting to compare this movie with more modern epics, cause there are always something that remind me of this, that only proves it's huge historical importance.
If you have interest in movie history, this one is essential.
Final Rating: 10.0.
