There are many movies that critics absolutely love, only because they have deep, complex meanings. These kind of movies really have to be pondered to be enjoyed. Seven Samurai is not one of those movies.
It's still a thoughtful and well-made film, but it's a classic that anyone can enjoy. The story is easy enough to understand, and the characters are real. You don't have to get all of the subtlety and technique to appreciate this truly epic film.
If you want to start watching the classics of cinema, this is a great place to begin.
