Review of Setup (2012) by Mads D — 05 Dec 2012
50 Cent is not, I repeat, NOT an actor, and his painfully wooden, emotionless performance is the icing on the cake for this depressingly ordinary and frightfully dull revenge thriller about a crook who is betrayed and left for dead by his childhood friend/partner in crime.
Several big names are on hand in an attempt to take up the slack left behind by Fiddy including Bruce Willis, Ryan Phillippe and James Remar but they're fighting a losing battle. Down ten gallons of coffee and a packet of ProPlus and I guarantee you'll STILL fall asleep! The only plus side is Willis, who seems to be having at least a little fun with his over the top mob boss character.
The only other enjoyment you'll get out of the film is by playing a "guess the emotion" game whenever Fiddy is on screen. Either that or try and count all of the scenes that add nothing to the plot and serve absolutely no purpose.
