Review of Session 9 (2001) by Deniz T — 24 Oct 2009
If you are looking for a decent scary movie this Halloween (besides the in-theaters-now "Paranormal Activity"), check out "Session 9." Relying on character study and a slowly mounting sense of dread rather than gore or cheap scares, this psychological thriller is truly gripping.
The psychologically fragile members of an asbestos removal team unravel over the course of one week, with terrifying results. The movie also features the best haunted location since the Overlook Hotel in "The Shining," made all the more effective because the Danvers State Mental Hospital was real .
. . and some really terrible things happened there. A claustrophobic, nightmarish movie that truly unsettles.
