Review of Session 9 (2001) by Daniel P — 26 Oct 2009
The fifth entry in my Horror Movie A Day series, this is a textbook case of how to make a scary movie without buckets of gore, special effects and jump scares. It is proof positive that all a horror movie needs is atmosphere, a razor-sharp cast and a director at the top of his game.
Director-writer Brad Anderson knows how to pull all the strings to keep the audience guessing and squirming. This is one genuinely creepy thriller that builds to a nail-bitting climax. Definitely not a film for everyone, but a must-see for anyone looking to throw themselves into the psyche of the disturbed.
