Review of Serpico (1973) by Alec S — 22 Apr 2011
Watching this again, I realize I have more of a personal appreciation for the film than I ever had before. It's not quite perfect, one or two scenes go over the top, but it's Pacino's best performance (or the one that shows his range completely from subtle to CRAZY Al), and Lumet's direction is greatly paced and creative visually.
But what I really respond to is its morality, and how it crafts such a tragic portrait of this character. I related to someone being this alone on the outside but trying to do the right thing. But aside from the personal side of it, it's still just a wonderfully made movie all around.
