I will never be able to say enough about Firefly and Serenity. If you love Joss Whedon or TV/movies with humor, passion, soul, and an ability to wrench your guts, then you have to watch Serenity. The only requirement is that you watch Firefly first and in the order the series was intended to be aired.
But I am not kidding you when I say that I flailed through the entire series and movie.
