Review of Séraphine (2008) by Robbie M — 02 Nov 2009
It is difficult for me to tolerate movies such as this, especially when the main character is so poignantly and tritely crazy, but somehow this worked out. There was a keen sense of directorial responsibility in cutting away before anything became too treacly.
There was also a sense of honesty that ran full well toward the end of the film, but nose-dived into cliché in the last half-hour.There's little other option. Ending the film before this happens would have been noble, but unlikely.
How can one resist a crazy lady tossing spoons on doorsteps on her wedding day with Jesus?
