Review of Desistfilm (1954) by Martin T — 16 Apr 2009
A personal favourite. "Desistfilm" covers all narrative ground commonly tread in Hollywood mercantile product, but the non-actors do it all in mock diffidence and/or non-acting acting. Brakhage uses the camera like a writing implement, or a knife, carving out cinema-real images on par with "reality" TV or celebrity interviews.
Hyperreal and bizarrely boring.
