Review of Séraphine (2008) by Yann B — 02 Apr 2010
To string criticizing words about such a film is a hard task.
It is too easy to be taken away by the films enchanting European/French backdrop. To be inspired and attentive to its beautiful story from history and get fully complimented by the amazing acting from Yolande Moreau, with her portrayal of the inspiring artist Seraphine and her life.
Personally I simply adored the film for these crucial qualities that many, per se Hollywodized films lack, in especially remakes. This film from France shows the treasure of foreign films mixed in the art of film-making with a bigger Hollywood market. (Both sides though can make great films still.).
Of course though this film still has its flaws, to me. Sometimes the story doesn't feel much connected with the audience and personally sometimes you can lose yourself in the story and need time to get to speed.
This though luckily didn't put me off the movie and I happily found my way out to enjoy the rest of this great movie.
