Review of Séraphine (2008) by Karine T — 03 Apr 2010
Really, there is nothing wrong with the movie. Even I, who like slow, foreign stuff, thought it went on a little long at just over two hours, but it is a minor complaint. I always enjoy stories about artists because they just see things in a different way.
Assuming the film is historically accurate, Seraphine's art turns from fairly rudimentary at the start to some pretty damn impressive, massive pieces. Her genius is furthered by the fact that she lives in poverty and mixes the colors out of various non-artistic materials (blood being the most provocative).
I must say, though this film has received acclaim worldwide, I still prefer Ed Harris as Pollack anyday.
