Review of Senso (1954) by Enrico C — 21 Mar 2009
Finally I managed to see this Visconti masterpiece in cinema. Adapted fro the short story by Boito, it is the love story between Countess Livia Serpieri (Alida Valli) and Lieutenent Franz Mahler (Farley Granger), set during the austrian occupation in Italy.
Magnificent work on costumes (Piero Tosi) and a great photography in technicolor by Gr Aldo. A key film to understand the decline of italian neo-realism, and the new wave of "realism" as a critical interpretation of history.
