Review of Sense and Sensibility (1995) by David B — 07 Aug 2009
A wonderfully sweet and surprisingly funny comedy of manners. Thompson's script gracefully steers this Austen adaptation away from any sort of PBS embalmment. The cast is first-rate. Winslet brings her usual fire to the passionate sister, but Thompson's portrayal of the sensible sister is just as good.
Her inevitable emotional outburst is a highpoint & maybe one of the greatest "crys" ever on film.
