The producers of this film achieve their aims brilliantly by making Senna much more than a documentary. The vast use of archive footage to tell Ayrton Senna's inspirational story turns this into a real life action drama that never loses sight of the fundamental function of all stories, both fact and fiction - to illicit an emotional response in the audience.
Senna does this superbly. The dramatic irony is in-built and inescapable - I knew what was coming but by the time I arrived at the end I didn't want to watch.
