Review of Selma (2014) by Andrea B — 08 Feb 2015
I really don't have anything light or flippant to say about this one. It manages to be revealing and educational. It is a fine piece of story telling. It puts us in the moment, with all the insecurities. David Oyelowo manages a herculean feat in this portrayal of a man who, to many of us, has become a legend.
Selma is also artful, if less than subtle about reminding us of the issues of today, specifically regarding the Voting Rights Act. It would a shame to walk away, and think "Well good, problem solved".
