Review of Selma (2014) by Dan B — 19 Feb 2015
Selma captures the true struggle MLK had to go through to at least get civil rights for African Americans. David Oyelowo is fantastic as Martin Luther King as he leads a great cast to tell the true story behind the build up to the famous Selma, Alabama march for civil rights.
Selma is brutal at times as it shows the true beatings and violence blacks had to go through to just send a message. MLK and his group were never violent and wanted to protest in peace but certain white groups just didn't want it.
Selma is a very enjoyable film and feeds you the historically facts of this march. It does feel a bit dry and slow at points but almost anything historical can feel this way. Selma sends the right message of inspiration and shows that what you believe in can be achieved.
The power of Martin Luther King is shown in the film and really gives you the view of what he wanted.
