Review of Self/less (2015) by Jen N — 16 Jul 2015
This film felt unsure of itself. Opportunities for exploration of some deep themes about immortality and its ethics, and the acceptance of ageing, were completely bypassed. Instead we had the same old second chance to redeem being an bad parent storyline with a few good action scenes.
Kingsley played such a strong role that Reynolds was unable to convince that he was the same man. I found the idea that an MRI machine teamed up with an anti-histamine plus anti-psychotic pill was the science behind body switching.
Unneccessary details such as these were given, yet other crater sized holes were just smoothed over. Disappontedthat this was an opportunity for a fine thought provoking film that was missed and instead there is another ok action film.
. Face/off this is not.
