Review of Self/less (2015) by Jason C — 15 Nov 2015
They didn't exactly invest a lot of money in advertising Self/less, so I didn't know exactly what it was going to be about. It's a thriller. Both literally and figuratively. While the story is simple enough that you're going to see most of the twists ahead of time, there are a couple that you'll figure out just before it happens.
Self/less is well cast. I like when Reynolds takes serious roles. He sold me on Buried. Ben Kingsley had limited time on screen, but hey, he's Ben Kingsley. Derek Luke doesn't get a whole lot of work, but he takes advantage of the opportunities he gets.
I wouldn't say everyone needs to run out and watch Self/less. I'm just saying if you're into thrillers, this is a very good choice if you're in the mood. Worth going to theaters for, or just renting down the road if the previews don't grab you. Either way, it's worth a watch.
