Review of Selena (1997) by Patsy P — 02 Mar 2010
Now this is what a latin biopic should be. Not like EL Cantante(The Singer) which made great salsa singer Hector Lavoe a drug addict in every scene. We knew he was one why remind us every time. Show us other things about him.
Selena takes that advice very well. Showing us a girl who changed tejano music forever. From a sweet girl growing up with his music loving father and family, to a mega superstar. Sadly came to a stop with her loss on March 31, 1995 by the president of her fan club. Her dream was to sing at Disney but never made it.
Strong performances, wonderful music the drawback is, it could get a little bit sappy. As well as the musical performances has too many camera cuts. Let the talent work on the screen. Other then that it's a great film.
I'm not Mexican I'm Puerto Rican but I'm proud that she was a very important person in changing music forever.
A good latin biopic of a great singer.
MP **** 4/5.
