Review of Secret in Their Eyes (2015) by Sue S — 25 Nov 2015
[Brief review...] Great cast - grossly under-used on a somewhat incoherent plot, though... the hope seemed to be that the skill of the actors and their "emotional moments" would carry the film.
Billy Ray proves he can direct, but his writing clearly suffered as he ventured into taking on all of the writer/director responsibilities for the first time. The movie has some intrigue, but also (again) relies on sheer pathos without packing the political punch that it clearly, but shallowly, tried to throw at the audience.
Julia Roberts steals the show with her supporting performance. Tech elements are par - nothing too distracting, nothing particularly beautiful.
