Review of Seconds (1966) by Anna L — 26 Aug 2011
Is this my beautiful house, is this my life, how did I get here? Dark stuff as some ordinary Joe is reborn as Rock Hudson, an artist hanging out in Malibu by a company who can make ordinary Joe's dreams come true with a faked death, enormous makeover and a butler to guide your way through your new life.
Typical of the age, the burgeoning hippy culture in Cali is entrancing but Frankenheimer captures the out of control that brings out the Charlie Mansons. A moral tale, with Rock realising that all that glitters.
.. and pines for his former life wishing he could have been a better man. Black, white and brutal.
