Review of Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993) by Tricia R — 23 Oct 2008
CONSENSUS: A warm, inspiriting family film that is a cut above the regulars found in this genre. Focuses more on the psychology of a child prodigy and the concept of competition and acceptance. The chess games are rousing and intense and presented carefully, as not to lose the attention of those less erudite on the subject.
The main character is played with sensitivity, while Fishburne and Kingsley represent the need for both discipline and spontaneity in life and the admission of different approaches. Simply a great film that is bound to entertain and move the viewer.
MY GRADE: A-.
