Review of Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993) by Peter L — 10 Nov 2009
A beautiful film that has been important in my life for a long time. In many ways this film is one of the reasons that I chose to major in acting, but that's a discussion for another time. This film, unlike so many othes, seems to understand what it is to be a child.
It captures that mood, that essence. It also poses some very hard questions, and doesn't try and shy away from them. Is it our duty to try and develop our talents to the height of our potential? Even if that is not exactly what we want? This movie is moving, and provocative, with a final conclussion that is perfect.
Some really great performances too, including some really great work from the deeply talented Ben Kingsley. A personal favorite, and a real gem of a movie.
