Review of Searching (2018) by Bob K — 26 Oct 2018
I watched this movie online. I swear, as David Kim (John Cho) was typing all kinds of searches, from resetting his daughter's passwords to looking at reddit feeds about his daughter's disappearance, I was almost doing the same. This is a movie for its time, meaning that in 10 years, it will be completely out of date. But I saw it today, I knew everything he was doing to find her, and I recognize Windows XP like it was yesterday.
This was set in San Jose, not far from me, and refers to locations just south of the city that I could Google while watching the movie. So again, this film might only have passing interest for many, but as a dad with a teenage daughter in the Bay Area who interacts with her on social media, it was absurdly on point, and thus very personally intense. I've never seen a custom-made movie before! If that's you as well, watch it.
