Review of Sea People (1999) by Eric On His Fantasy Quest V — 01 Sep 2008
No action - No special effects. Mostly because of a charming performance by a very likeable older couple, Sea People is nevertheless a good movie. It's a melodramatic drama centering around an emotional young teenage girl living in a small fishing village on the Atlantic Coast.
So basically, it's a chick-flick. Well, I'll admit it - sometimes I like chick-flicks. This is a charming movie. It's just a touch TOO melodramatic at the end, but hey, that's a common complaint for me.
Part of why I liked Sea People is that there are a few scenes of wide-eyed wonder. Also, the characters are good people - full of life. I like that kind of stuff. I think my daughters (5 & 8) would have liked it quite a bit, but even without any special effects they would have been freaked out in a couple places.
