Review of Se7en (1995) by Alex H — 18 Apr 2014
Seven is a creepy and brutal thriller about two detectives, a rookie and a veteran, that hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his modus operandi. Seven is a very disturbing film that builds so much suspense that it keeps you glued to the screen from start to finish.
The narrative is very original and intelligent, this makes the film very enjoyable to watch. Director David Fincher made such a mess of the third installment of the Alien franchise that I was truly shocked at how spectacular this film is, it was everything a crime thriller should be and more.
The cinematography is top-notch, it is a superbly well made film. The performances of Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt are just as good as actors of their unique calibre should be, they make a very enjoyable partnership on screen.
Kevin Spacey is a chilling and intelligent psychopath that has so much passion for what he believes in and the horrific murders he commits, he sees nothing wrong in what he has done, he was truly great in the role.
Seven is a fantastic Crime Thriller and it goes down as my all time favourite in the genre, even might be my favourite film of all time.
