Review of Se7en (1995) by Sam C — 11 Apr 2015
To me David Fincher's Se7en is a masterpiece, everything about this movie is just incredible to me. David Fincher is a fantastic filmmaker and this is without a doubt one of the best films. This movie is flawless in my opinion, I didn't have one single problem with this movie because everything was done so perfectly.
I'll go more in depth about this movie starting with the writing. Andrew Kevin Walker's script is just fascinating, the script tells a very dark and interesting story that has a few twists and turns along the way.
Se7en's story is just unforgettable mainly because of how dark twisted some of the material is; but, that's not necessarily bad thing in my opinion. One thing I love about this film's story is that it's original, you don't get that many films with original stories like this nowadays and that's quite disappointing.
Anyway, the story had me invested the whole way through and was just incredible. Also the dialogue and characters were well written as well. David Fincher's did a brilliant job at directing this movie.
Like I said the story for this film is really dark and Fincher did a fantastic job at creating this dark tone. All the environments looked dark and in a lot of the film's scenes it's raining. Fincher also does a great job at creating suspense, there are a few suspenseful scenes in this film including the ending of the film which was definitely the most suspenseful scene in the entire movie.
The moments before the big twist were just calm and slowly building up to that twist and it was just so suspenseful. Another thing that adds to the suspense in the magnificent score by Howard Shore. Fincher also does a very good job at setting up the shots in this film and the cinematography captures his vision beautifully.
The performances in this movie are amazing, every actor gives it there all and it pays off. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman are great together and both give incredible performances along with Gwyneth Paltrow and a very chilling Kevin Spacey.
In the end Se7en is a brilliant film and should not be missed, definitely check this film out!
