Review of Se7en (1995) by Ryan H — 30 Nov 2017
David Fincher's first critical success shows the director's talent for the moody and macabre. Although the film is dark, both figuratively and literally, it's created with such slick finesse that you can't help but be engrossed in the grossness.
As far as crime thrillers go, this one is essential viewing. It started the artist-muse relationship of Fincher and Pitt, and proved the director was capable of directing A-list films. It's not for those with weak stomachs, but it's worth it in the end.
And kudos to Kevin Spacey for creating one of the most diabolical killers in movie history who only has about 15 minutes of screen time.
