Review of Scrooged (1988) by Magdalena T — 17 Dec 2009
What a surprisingly hilarious holiday gem! outlandishly silly and subtly heartwarming with a great cast of actors and cameos. Carol Kane's Ghost of Christmas Present is just priceless, and Karen Allen plays an instantly attractive and likable love interest.
the one major complaint I have about this film is the lack of character development--supporting characters aside, whereas Dickens' Scrooge goes on a profoundly life-changing journey, Bill Murray..
.does not. the Ghost of Christmas Future scene is extremely rushed and there really isn't any time or reason to complete the change-of-heart. so while this movie is undoubtedly entertaining as is one of the few modern holiday classics, drawing storytelling comparisons between this and the actual Christmas Carol is probably a no-no.
