Review of Scrooge (1970) by Phil M — 25 Jan 2008
My dad an my uncle used to talk about this movie all the time when they were younger. this is my favorite interpretation of the story as well as my favorite christmas movie. albert finney's acting was out-freaking-standing. reading the book in school I always thought the lines were kind of lame, but when he delivers them it just oozes with wickedness. i'm also, to this day, blown away by the makeup effects used in a movie from 1970. when I was younger I never knew that finney actually looked like the strapping 30-ish man in the flashbacks, I always thought he was old and creepy.
Best Scene: Geez there are so many great scenes that go with all the great songs...but it would have to be "Thank You Very Much" as Scrooge is merrily singing and dancing to his own funeral in the future.
