Review of Scream 4 (2011) by Tyler R — 13 Apr 2013
"Scream" turned the slasher genre on its head back in 1996. It offered a satirical look at the genre while delivering chills. Here we are, fifteen years later, and we now have "Scream 4".
The film follows Sindney Prescott as she returns to her hometown on a book tour, only to discover thay a familiar face has decided to crop up and wreak havoc. The acting from the series veterans is cheesey and over the top at times, and that's exactly what this film needed more of.
All of the other actors seemed to have gotten some type of memo that said they all should play it serious. The writing is pretty witty at times, but since this is the fourth installment, the wit is pretty barren and gone at most points and it comes off as forced.
The kills are gruesome as usual, but even they lost their shock value this time around. Also, there is the situation concerning the ending....They really scraped the bottom of the barrel looking for an excuse for everything to happen.
At the end of the day, this film does nothing more than make me wish "Scream" was on so I didn't have to watch what is nothing more than a hollow shell of a classic.
