Review of Scream 4 (2011) by Charles S — 16 Jun 2014
Scream 4 is a triumphant return to form for the series after the lackluster response to Scream 3, and provides us with a fun, and somewhat scary thrill ride. The scares are tame this time around, and Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson bounce from several different directions and themes throughout the film, but the meta humor is abundant, the kills are intense and brutal, and the new characters are fun, charming, and stand out against Scream 3 transparent cast.
Neve Campbell remains as fierce as she ever was, and Hayden Panettiere gives a stellar performance. Emma Roberts is a miscast, but she still manages to do a decent enough job. If this is the last installment of the Scream saga, then the series has indeed gone out with a explosive and bloody bang.
