Review of Scream 3 (2000) by Anthony S — 27 Jul 2011
Character progression moves where it needs to to keep the story going, but the series is starting to feel predictable at this point. Even though one of the series regulars was killed early on, and the "rules of the end of a trilogy" promise that all bets are off when it comes to character safety, I still didn't think any of the three principals was going to bite it (and of course, they didn't).
The killer stumbles around a lot while chasing the people without ever grunting and giving away who he is. The voice modifier thing is one hell of a gadget; if it were as effective as it is in the hands of a serial killer, who knows what the military could do with that thing.
It was really overused in this movie, and one would think the victim would be able to hear the killer's actual voice (even if it is disguised) instead of his phone voice, if the killer were only a few feet behind, or lurking in a nearby closet.
Still, it remained enjoyable and interesting enough that I didn't fall asleep or feel the urge to fast forward so kudos to Wes Craven for keeping your series hovering around the mediocre range.
