Review of Scream 3 (2000) by Kyle L — 03 Oct 2012
Scream 3 is a disappointing sequel to a successful Horror film and it didn't live up the hype of the original Scream film. I finished watching my box set collection of the first three Scream movies and to be honest I didn't like this one as much as I enjoyed the first two Scream films although it has it's moments but it's best moments can't live up the hype due to the film's terrible and awful moments.
The plot of Scream 3 takes place after the events of Scream 2 where Sidney Prescott is now in California working as as crisis intervention councilor. Meanwhile in Hollywood Gail Weathers is investigating the deaths of a couple of casts for the new movie Stab 3 and when most of the casts dies they discovered that someone is back to kill more victims and Sidney Prescott must help Gail and Dewey on finding the killer before they're next.
To be honest this film didn't impress me a lot and I was just a little bit happy with it although I didn't like it a lot and I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the first two Scream films.
This movie is a really big disappointment in the Scream trilogy and I wish it could have been so much better if it wasn't for the replacement of the screenwriter. Although at least this movie had it's best moments but it doesn't save the film for one reason.
What's great about Scream 3 is that the film is on it's usual style and the scares and the rest are all the same. There are some suspenceful and tense scenes in the film. The opening scene with Cotton Weary and his girlfriend getting attacked by the serial killer is a really tense opening scene and I did like that scene because it was kinda smart and scary as well.
The scene that I also enjoyed is the scene where the third victim who gets killed in the clothing room gets attacked by the killer is also a suspenceful and tense scene and it managed to pack a punch for one reason.
I also enjoyed the scene where Sidney gets attacked in the setting of the studio where Sidney finds a modeled version of her house and the killer attacks Sidney and that is one of the most tense parts of Scream 3 and I did like that scene also so far.
What I also like about Scream 3 is that the film also has a couple of impressive kills. The opening scene where Cotton Weary gets killed by the killer is an impressive kill scene. While the rest of the kills are impressive and visually neat like the death scene of the body guard and the death of one guy who gets blown up inside the house is one of the most impressive kills I've seen in Horror movie history so far.
I also like the twist once again of this film and I like how the killer is revealed to be the director of Stab 3 and you only have one killer in Scream 3 since in Scream 1 and 2 you have two killers part 3 has one killer only and it's a pretty great idea so far.
Since the film had some of the best moments this movie also has problems and issues that doesn't save the film for being a good movie. The biggest downside of Scream 3 is that the film has an awful storyline thanks to the script from Ehren Kruger and I only wished that if Kevin Williamson wrote the film again this movie could have been so much better.
My other problems with Scream 3 is that the film is full of bad cliches and there are certain parts of the film where the cliches happen. The other problem with Scream 3 is that the film also doesn't have enough tension or suspense as well and it could have been so much better if it had more suspense and tension so far.
Now the acting is great the performances of the returning casts from the first two Scream films and the new casts also handled they're performances really well in Scream 3. Neve Campbell once again does a great job in playing her role as the protagonist Sidney Prescott and Neve Campbell is still gorgeous and pretty at the exact same time.
While the performances of David Arquette and Courtney Cox as Dewey Riley and Gail Weathers is great and the acting is really impressive in this movie so far. Director Wes Craven could have at least had Kevin Williamson back again in writing Scream 3 and I know Wes Craven handled all the Scream movies well thanks to his impressive directing and use of powerful and mind blowing Camera Work but if this movie had Kevin WIlliamson at least wrote the screenplay of Scream 3 this movie could have been so much better for one reason.
Overall Scream 3 gets a 4/10 because this movie may have it's best moments but the film isn't saved from it's best moments due to the problems that Scream 3 also has in the entire film thanks also to an awful screenplay from Ehren Kruger.
It isn't really a good Horror movie but at least Scream 3 is better than most Horror movies now a days.
