Review of Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015) by Anthonio G — 31 Oct 2015
Originally called Scouts vs. Zombies, this movie features a slacker character lip syncing and excessively twerking to a popular pop song within the first ten seconds of the film. You have to expect that anything that happens after this is not high art or Oscar bait, its simply an entertaining zombie movie.
This time, its shy Ben, nerdy Augie, and sex crazy Carter as boy scouts, who have to step up when zombies plague their small town. The movie does have a lot of zombie action and set pieces, but it fails to take the genre in new directions.
The zombie animals are underused, and the intelligence of the newly turned zombies doesn't go anywhere beyond a funny singing scene. The only other thing that is refreshing is having a strong female character who doesn't hook up with the main lead, because there's another woman used as a trophy instead.
Its not perfect, but you could do a lot worse than Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.
