Review of Scoop (2006) by Alan J — 24 May 2010
Dull, boring, bland. A big disappointment. It seems as Allen advances in age, his talent for making truly funny and interesting movies declines. He stumbles, bumbles and mumbles his lines throughout this movie, and most of the dialogue just misses the mark completely; there are very few chuckles here.
Jackman is tall, dark and handsome and comes off with debonair flair, in other words he is just playing himself. Johansson, while a true beauty, whines her words incessantly and sounds more like a pain in the a** nebish; in other words a female Woody Allen at best.
The plot is just so-so with manufactured charm and interest. See "Manhattan Murder Mystery" if you liked this movie; its a reminder of how funny Allen USED to be.
