Review of Scoop (2006) by Willie J — 10 May 2014
"Scoop" is nothing special, nothing inventive, and even predictable. Yet the duo of Woody Allen and Scarlett Johansson is so attractive, we can't resist. This crime-comedy about a journalist trying to solve a case of serial murders, is hilarious.
Does it make any difference Woody gave himself all the best lines? The master of one-liners strikes again. I'd like to add Hugh Jackman does a fine job as well, although his performance is not a stand out.
And neither is Scarlett Johansson's. Whilst she was fine in the Allen persona role, it was simply OK. It is good enough to watch, but there were times we could sense someone else would be better suited for the role.
Nonetheless, Allen keeps us laughing through this film, and that is it's saving grace from triteness ruining the whole experience.
